Dr. James Gohar is an entrepreneur and practicing obstetrician and gynecologist with over 20 years of experience in the medical women’s health space.
As a leader in women’s health, Dr. Gohar has dedicated his career to delivering personalized, ethical and outstanding quality of care. After taking ownership of the women’s health medical center, Forest Hills Medical Services, in 2013, and establishing specialty women’s outpatient surgery practice, Viva Eve, in 2016, he saw the potential to build one consolidated practice that could cater to all women’s health needs.
In 2021, he launched Viva Eve – a health destination offering integrated specialty care for women—from ObGyn services to fertility and fibroid treatments—under one warm and welcoming roof. Through Viva Eve, his mission is to redefine women’s healthcare to empower patients as active participants in their own personal healthcare journey.
Dr. Gohar is driven to expand Viva Eve’s offerings, which center on top-tier patient experience and state-of-the-art medical techniques, to thousands of women residents throughout New York. He still practices as a physician at Viva Eve, and his number one priority continues to be his patients.
He also serves as a Clinical Instructor at Weill Cornell School of Medicine and an Attending ObGyn at Mount Sinai West and New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Gohar received his medical degree from the historical Cairo University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the Medical College of Georgia.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
In 2013, I took over my mother’s practice with the aim of continuing her patient-centric approach to obstetrics and gynecology. Under my leadership, the office was completely renovated to modernize the space, incorporate new technology, and make it as welcoming and comfortable for patients as possible. Our staff is dedicated to providing superior patient health and well-being for thousands of patients annually, and we’ve also established a speciality women’s outpatient surgery practice, focusing on the treatment of women’s fibroids using evidence-based medical techniques to deliver a first-class patient experience.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in women’s health/medicine?
My parents (who are both doctors) instilled in me the desire and passion to help others. Growing up, my mother was a practicing gynecologist and through her work, I gained respect for the issues that make women special. I became acutely aware of the unique role ObGyns play throughout the most meaningful parts of women’s lives. By specializing in a female-focused field, I’m able to change the way healthcare is delivered for all women.
What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
Drive. As a physician and a CEO, I am driven to meet not only our patients’ expectations, but my own expectations. Viva Eve is a total reinvention of the women’s health care experience, and building a women’s health destination that offers the level of attention and personalization we deliver takes dedication and a fundamental commitment across the board. I strive for the best possible outcomes for our patients, and that starts with our approach.
Hannah I'm so glad I made the switch from my former Ob/Gyn. The whole staff was extremely welcoming and made you feel comfortable. I definitely will be going back.
