Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in NYC

Every woman’s pregnancy is individual and for some women, achieving their “pre-baby” abdomen post-pregnancy may be difficult. Despite your dedication to a healthy diet and exercise routine, you may not be able to slim down your now changed stomach. Perhaps you have lost some weight in certain areas of the body, but others just won’t follow suit no matter what you do.

That’s where a tummy tuck in NYC comes in.

At Viva Eve, we are dedicated to offering a comprehensive range of women’s health and wellness services for women of all ages. Beyond the standard Ob/Gyn services we offer, we now offer custom mommy makeover plans that are individualized for each patient’s needs. Tummy tucks are often a key component of these plans, and they are are one of the most sought after procedures that we offer in New York City.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

When considering options to help regain your pre-baby figure, there are a variety of procedures that can help. Many patients consider liposuction as a way to remove stubborn fat and contour their stomach. However, there are times when removing fat alone doesn’t quite do the trick. In those cases, our expert surgery team will recommend a tummy tuck.

Tummy tucks are the answer to the loose folds of skin and lack of elasticity that occurs after a major life-changing event such as pregnancy or extreme weight loss. Our leading board-certified surgeon is dedicated to putting your needs first, offering several different techniques to help achieve the look you desire.

How do you prepare for a Tummy Tuck?

Viva Eve surgeons tell our patients that tummy tucks should be performed when patients are already at their ideal weight. Tummy tucks should not be thought of as a weight loss procedure, but rather as a contouring procedure. So one of the main ways to prepare your body for a successful tummy tuck is do your best to lose weight in the months leading up to the procedure.

In preparing for an already scheduled tummy tuck surgery, your Viva Eve plastic surgeon might ask you to:

  • Get lab testing and have a medical evaluation
  • Adjust or temporarily discontinue your current medications
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding

Staying as comfortable as possible in the initial stage of recovery from tummy tuck is very important. Tat is why we recommend that you prepare some supplies. Your Viva Eve  will provide you with a list that might include;

  • Extra pillows
  • Gauze pads
  • Comfortable clothing and underwear that is easy to remove
  • Ice packs and over-the-counter medication for discomfort
  • Compression clothing if prescribed

You will also be asked to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you for at least the first night following surgery.

Why Undergo a Tummy Tuck in New York?

In New York, you’re surrounded by an array of plastic surgeons who offer a bevy of plastic surgery procedures – and that’s where their expertise ends. Viva Eve stands apart from other cosmetic surgery options in NYC through our extensive and diverse team of in-house medical experts, led by our Director of Plastic Surgery. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows our practice to offer unparalleled care for women – mentally, emotionally, and physically. We recognize a woman’s right to feel and look her best. And that includes empowering her to enhance her natural beauty through living a healthy lifestyle and knowing when to consider surgical intervention.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for a Tummy Tuck at Viva Eve?

Childbirth often leads to changes in a woman’s physical shape – and this can take a toll on a woman’s overall health and wellbeing. When the trouble areas (such as a woman’s midsection) lead to constant feelings of unhappiness and frustrating physical issues, we suggest discussing a tummy tuck with an expert. Since our New York abdominoplasty surgeries offer permanent results, getting pregnant again after a tummy tuck could completely reverse all of the aesthetic results of the surgery, which is why ideally most candidates have completed their pregnancy phase and are done with childbearing.

Other suitable candidates for our advanced tummy tuck techniques are women who are dealing with:

  • Loose or sagging skin around their abdominal area
  • Difficulty achieving their ideal weight, despite eating well and being active
  • Weakened abdominal muscles that may have separated as a result of the pregnancy process
  • Diminished self-confidence due to excess skin that could be remedied with a tummy tuck

All candidates for this tummy tuck surgery in New York should also be in good general health, which we’ll be able to evaluate at our offices.

Tummy Tuck Benefits & Risks

Benefits

There are many health benefits that our patients experience after the NYC tummy tuck procedure at Viva Eve. Aside from achieving noticeable aesthetic results, there are also significant medical advantages, which include:

  • Reducing the risk for other medical conditions such as hernias, gallbladder disease, and gallstones.
  • Gaining increased control over all of your bodily functions, relieving the stress and embarrassment of dealing with urinary incontinence.
  • Getting rid of stubborn fat and also naturally strengthening your core, helping to build those weakened abdominal muscles back up.
  • Experiencing reduced back and muscle pain as well since your abdomen is no longer carrying around all that extra baggage.

An exciting advantage of undergoing a tummy tuck is that you can see a lot of the results right away. While it does take several months to heal, you will start to notice quite an improvement in your abdomen flattening. After a few months, the results will be even more noticeable.

Risks

While tummy tucks are highly successful, there are still a few risks that are important to talk about.

  • There is temporary bruising, swelling, and discomfort following the procedure.
  • A risk of numbness and prolonged pain may be present; if this occurs, get in touch with your surgeon right away.
  • Some tummy tucks may produce excess scarring.

Our empathetic and attentive surgical team will carefully monitor your procedure and recovery. If you’re not recovering as expected, you can utilize our 24/7 Patient Care Line to give us a call.

What can you expect during a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and restores weakened muscles to create a smoother, firmer abdominal profile. This procedure can also correct diastasis recti. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia.

During the typical tummy tuck, your plastic surgeon makes incisions to remove most of the skin and fat between your bellybutton and pubic hair in a horizontal oval or elliptical shape. Connective tissue (fascia) that lies over the abdominal muscles is then tightened with permanent sutures.

The procedure typically takes about two to three hours.

What is the followup and recovery like for a Tummy Tuck?

Because each woman’s tummy tuck procedure is different and can also be performed alongside other procedures, a woman’s recovery time will vary as well. Your recovery and scar size and location will also depend on the type of abdominoplasty your doctor performed. In general, you should expect to schedule about 3 weeks off of work following your procedure, and your doctor will most likely recommend that you don’t resume any regular strenuous exercise for the first 4 to 6 weeks after your tummy tuck. You may do light exercise after a month if approved by our doctors.

Most patients are able to return to work after approximately 2 weeks and are mostly recovered from a tummy tuck in less than 8 weeks.

Your Viva Eve plastic surgeon will provide you with detailed pre-operation and post-operation instructions and discuss the best way to make your recovery as swift and uneventful as possible.

Your recovery and scar size and location will depend on the type of abdominoplasty you need.

What are the potential costs for a Tummy Tuck?

Since cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure, insurance doesn’t cover the cost. It is best to answer potential costs during a face-to-face evaluation, as pricing varies depending on your specific case and the level of cosmetic adjustment you want. For pricing information on specific procedures, please contact our Cosmetic Concierge at 212-988-2111.

Are there related procedures to a Tummy Tuck?

Tummy tuck could possible be a part of a Mommy Makeover, a set of procedures that are designed to restore the shape and appearance of the areas of the body most affected by childbearing.  Mommy makeovers typically consist of an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast augmentation (breast implants), and mastopexy (breast lift).

At Viva Eve a mommy makeover is highly customizable and is tailored to fit each patient’s individual needs.

Our Viva Eve surgery experts highly recommend tummy tuck surgery in NYC because we have seen incredible long-term benefits and the transformative results that it leads to. While a tummy tuck is offered as part of our personalized mommy makeover package, a tummy tuck is a procedure that many women can benefit from. After your personalized consultation, you will have a much better idea of which procedure is right for you, whether it is a tummy tuck treatment or something less invasive, like meeting with our nutritionist. Tummy Tuck FAQs

Tummy tucks are not meant to be weight loss procedures, although that is a common misnomer. Our New York abdominoplasty services are meant to treat areas of the abdomen that have loose skin and excess fat cells, shaping the stomach in a way that offers a more pleasing contour. Tummy tucks are about shape, not weight.

Our doctors recommend that most patients wait at least a month before going back to any sort of vigorous exercise. Don’t participate in heavy lifting or strenuous workouts for at least four weeks or at the advisement of your New York surgeon

Due to the nature of the tummy tuck surgery, you should expect to see some scarring. However, our advanced techniques minimize the amount of visible scarring that occurs. Over time, the results of your tummy tuck will overlap the scars, and you won’t even notice that they’re there.

At Viva Eve, we recommend that you only invest in a tummy tuck procedure if you are done having children. While this or any kind of plastic surgery at Viva Eve does not prevent you from getting pregnant again, the results of the surgery could be completely undone by birthing another child.

Recovering from your abdominoplasty can be an easygoing process, but it requires several weeks off of work. It’s important to rest as much as possible for two to four weeks following the procedure, checking in with your surgeon on a regular basis. You may experience pain and swelling for the first couple of weeks.
